Q: How do I Add A New Menu? |
A: At times, you will be required to create new menus for your system. If the requirement is due to a DataModes upgrade, we will send information to assist you in making the changes. If you have customized your menus, the menu numbers and selections may differ from those that may be sent with your update documentation.
In this example, we will add a sub menu titled PURCHASING UTILITIES that will be called from the main Purchasing menu.
1. You will actually 'create the new menu' first. From the Utilities menu, select Menu Definition. (If you have purchased and installed the DataModes Security AUP, your menu selection will be Menu Permissions Maintenance.) 2. Determine which menu will 'call' the new sub menu. When a menu line has 3 periods (…), these periods indicate that another sub menu will be called rather than a program screen. Since the menu we are creating is a sub menu of the main Purchasing menu, the Purchasing line item will indicate "Purchasing Utilities …"..
For our example, locate the Purchasing menu (usually menu 38) and verify the menu number. If it is not menu 38, make a note of it's menu number to be used at steps 4 and 6.
3. Use the F5 key to clear the existing menu and display a 'blank' menu.
4. At the blank menu screen, the 'Menu Number' field will remain BLANK. At 'Returns to Menu Number', enter the number of the menu number where you will add the 'call' for the new sub menu. Using the example in step 2, this will be "38".
In the remaining fields, enter the information that has been supplied (usually a print screen) to create this menu.
When you are finished with the last line on this menu, use the F2 key to SAVE the changes. DataModes will assign the 'next available menu number' as it saves.
5. To determine the menu number was assigned, at a blank menu, type '99' in the Menu Number field.
Use the F9 key to 'find' the highest number assigned. This should be the menu you have just created. Make note of this menu number.
6. Use the F5 key to clear the menu screen. Then, at the menu number field enter the menu number that will 'call' this sub menu (this menu was identified at step 2). Use the F9 Find key or the Enter key to find this menu. Add the new line for the new sub menu call (i.e. Purchasing Utilities… with Action of MENU ##).
