Q: How do I Print File Definitions? |
A: The following steps will be used to print a single File Definition or multiple File Definitions for the Live and/or Play DataModes data files.
1. From the UTILITIES menu select DF FILE MAINTENANCE UTILITY. If you are unable to locate this selection, please contact your DataModes System person.
2. At the DataFlex File Maintenance Utility screen select MAINTENANCE from the menu bar.
3. From the drop down menu, select FILELIST.
4. A list of files will appear in the center of your screen. This list contains the File Numbers and Descriptions of your files and is displayed in the order of your File Status Report.
5. When selecting multiple files, two options are available for the operator to use to select files for definition output. In either case, the 'highlighted' files will be included in the output generated in the next steps.
The first option would be to use the arrow key to move to each file and 'tag' them by using the SPACE BAR key.
The second option will allow the operator to select all files by using the 'ALT F' keys (or your key that is mapped as the ALT key along with the 'F' key) to return to FileList on the menu bar. Move to the option SELECT ALL and use the ENTER key to select that option. When the entire filelist has been highlighted, the operator may then use the arrow keys to move to the files that you do not want to output and use the SPACE BAR key to 'deselect' them.
6. When all files have been selected, use the ALT F keystrokes again to return to FILELIST on the menu bar. Select OUTPUT .DEF/.FD.
7. Make sure the screen selections are: Generate [X] .DEF, Output (x) FILE and Directory (x) Current. Select F2=OK to continue.
8. The message "FileList Editor Outputting .DEF for file XXXXXXX Esc=Stop" will briefly appear. When all .DEFs have been saved, the screen will clear and return to the file list. Use the ESC key to return to the DataModes menu.
If a copy of these .DEF's has been requested by DataModes and you are able to use the MSDOS version of PKZIP, you may zip all the .DEF's (*.DEF) from the Live data area and email them to tech@datamodes.com. If not, please contact DataModes Technical Support for more information.
